Sculpture Instructor Elizabeth Alexander, who will be exhibiting in Montserrat Gallery’s Home Sweet Home through Jan. 21, was featured on Boston.com in August for her show at Bromfield Gallery in Boston.


Art Education Instructor Charlie Allen’s work from Italy 2010: OLD HILLS – NEW MARKS was displayed at the Marblehead Arts Association in June.


Sculpture Prof. Meredith Morten returned to Hungary for a three-month residency this fall at the International Ceramics Studio in Kecskemét, after receiving a grant from CEC ArtsLink to complete Project Terrain. She created ceramic sculptures inspired by Hungarian prehistory for a solo exhibition at the Gorka Ceramics Museum in Veröce scheduled for August 2012. Morten also gave presentations about her project and life as an American artist in several Hungarian cities.

Adria Arch, "Red Head"


Foundation Instructor Adria Arch’s show Brain Storm, which feature her "doodles," was exhibited at Bromfield Gallery in Boston, MA throughout October. adriaarch.com


In April, Prof. Thorpe Feidt gave an overview of Montserrat’s founding at Cape Ann Museum, with attention given to its early teachers, including Alfred Czerepak. Czerepak exhibited his work at the Museum in May. A focus tour, led by his former student Trina Smith, was also given of his work in March.


Assoc. Prof. Blyth Hazen, coordinator of the Animation and Interactive Media Program, participated in a panel discussion this fall at MassArt with other pioneers in the field of online arts education. Hazen discussed how she uses Moodle courseware for her classes, freshmen seminars, and several other faculty initiatives. blythhazen.com


Julia Shepley, "Access #1"


Assoc. Prof. Caroline Bagenal, Instructor Julia Shepley, and Asst. Prof. Marilu Swett, chair of the Sculpture Department, exhibited in Selected Works from the Boston Sculptors Gallery at the University of New Hampshire Museum of Art. Bagenal’s essay Ravishing Beauty: The Aesthetics of Rape in Grace Ndiritu’s Video Desert Storm was published in Vol. 39 of Afterimage.

Prof. Erin Dionne, co-chair of the Liberal Arts Department, announced the release of her newest novel, Notes from An Accidental Band Geek (Dial Books, 2011), in September. erindionne.com


Drawing and Painting Instructor Ian Factor taught a couple of two-day weekend painting workshops in June and September. Both workshops were held at the Cape Cod Museum of Art in Dennis, MA. ianfactor.com


Esther Tornai Thyssen exhibiting at Affairs of the Art


Art History Instructor Esther Tornai Thyssen’s work was included in the 5th Annual Juried Exhibition in July at the Grossman Gallery of the SMFA, Affairs of the Art. She was inspired to make and not just view it, by both her students and fellow faculty at Montserrat. She worked on the show with Montserrat faculty member Rhoda Rosenberg.
