After a busy pre-show day when riders eagerly met their new mounts for competition, Saturday August 20 dawned sunny and 20˚C. After enjoying a hot breakfast at the hotel in Sarnia, riders began to arrive at Fiddick’s Stables in Petrolia by 8am to begin preparations for the 9am start of the 2011 Ontario ParaSport Summer Games Para Equestrian competition. This year the show sup- ported two levels of competition; an Equine Canada sanctioned Gold Dressage show, and a non-sanctioned Entry level Dressage show. This allowed for wider access to competi- tion for our rider members. A total of 14 riders competed at the OPSG’s and everyone had a wonderful time. After the show, everyone was treated to a demonstration of trick riding by the Sarnia Trick Riding Troup who train out of Fiddick’s arenas twice a week.

The festivities wrapped up by 1pm and the riders were back to the hotel in Sarnia for the closing ban- quet. Geraldine Lewis won the Bob Secord Award of merit for her per- formance and determination to show

once again after health problems had kept her from riding after the 2009 OPSG competi- tion in Woodstock. Gerri was riding on lead only two weeks before the OPSG’s, and won 2 silver medals for her perfor- mance at the competi- tion. Gerri is a sym- bol of the heart and determination shown by all of our riders and is an inspiration to us all.

Special thanks goes out to Megan Vance for helping to organize the day as well as Pauline Fiddick, Lisa Archer and Donna Archer of Fiddick’s Stables for without them, we would not have had a venue for the show. Thank you also to all of the volunteers for their
