Area 3 News
Area 3 Promotional Club September News By Judy Filion Gill
There are days that never seem to end, they last forever. Everyone is waiting for tomorrow, the weekend, holidays or the next horse show! So why do we wait so long for the show season only to have it end so soon? The Area 3 Promotional Club has once again enjoyed a very successful season. Some changes and improvements were made that everyone seems to be pleased with. The shows ran smoothly, were very well attended and exhibitors were rewarded with many points and prizes. We are proud
to continue to offer you a great experience at Spring Classic, Summerama and the Novice/Summer Circuit shows. And we thank you for your continued support of Area 3.
Our sponsors have been generous again this year in supporting our club. We are grateful to them for their involvement and loyalty to Area 3. Thank you for contribut- ing to the continued success of our club and the shows we offer. If anyone is interested in becoming a sponsor go to the website at
www.area3.ca for contact information. We would like to congratulate long time
Area 3 member Jenna Woodley on being chosen the OQHA Queen for 2011. Best of luck at the Congress Queen competition! Good luck to our 2011 NYATT group of exhibitors and volunteers at Congress this year, we will be very well represented! Although the shows have finished for Area 3 in 2011 there is still a lot of hard work to be done. The Board of Directors continues to work very hard throughout the year to ensure we can offer the best experi- ence for the next season! We will be review- ing and discussing the changes and progress and we will continue to address concerns
and suggestions. Overall we have heard that our members and exhibitors enjoyed a great 2011 show season!
Check the website
www.area3.ca for all the highlights, details and news. Please con- tact me with any news you might have for Area 3 at
simplyshowsupplies@hotmail.com. Cheers to another great season showing Quarter Horses and building memories one horse show at a time!
2011 Ontario Quarter Horse Breeders Futurity
The 2011 Ontario Quarter Horse Breeders Futurity and Summer Finale Quarter Horse Show was held August 26-28 at the Ilderton Fairgounds. The show was well attended and gorgeous weather allowed all our riding classes to be held out- doors. Futurity results will soon be posted on our website at
www.oqha.on.ca . Please be sure to check out the picture gallery and futurity pictures now posted on River Bend Designs website. www.river-

The OQHBF was also the site of an OQHA General Mem- bership meeting which was held to discuss the new Ontario Breeders Futurity proposal and to vote in favor or against con- tinuing with this new futurity model.
work out and solidify, but the vote was to see if the member- ship was in favor or against the proposed format. All members in attendance voted in favor of this new format.
The original OQHBF was designed as a stallion owner’s futurity and only babies from stallions sold through the OQHBF Stallion Service Sale were eligible. This format does not work in today’s industry; therefore a new format was required. The new proposal is based on an all breed “mare owners’ type futurity and will allow the option to pay in year- lings and 2 year olds, in order to open up the eligibility.
The proposal was available to all members at the meeting and can be found on the website at
www.oqha.on.ca. If you would like a copy mailed for faxed, please call Shawna Craw- ford at 613-913-7262. Attention to all: The com- mittee is still working out final details of this new futurity. There is still time to send in your comments or suggestions. Final rules need to be solidified by October 1st, 2011, therefore please review and let us know your thoughts. The final rules will be voted on once again at the OQHA Annual General Meeting in January. Please send any comments or sugges- tions to Pete Hammer hbindus-

The meeting was called to order at 7:30 by 1st Vice Presi- dent Val Love. OQHBF Chair- person Pete Hammer gave a brief discussion surrounding the proposal and informed the membership that the vote was to agree or disagree with the “mare owners” format. There are still a number of details needed to
The 2011 OQHBF com- mittee would like to thank all the exhibitors who attended our show, and a special thanks to all the wonderful sponsors. With- out you, we wouldn’t be able to hold our shows!
