August 23, 2011, Toronto, ON – The Ontario Quarter Horse Racing Industry Development Program (QHRIDP) is pleased to announce two new buyer incentives just in time for the 2011 QROOI Yearling and Mixed Sale, to be held at the Orangeville Fairgrounds on Saturday, September 24th. These incentives are:





Sales Graduate Stakes Certificates – Pur- chasers of all 2011 Sales Graduates will receive a $200 certificate to be used


as a voucher toward stakes nomination fees for any stakes race offered by the QROOI stakes program through 2014.


– Sales Graduate Bonus – All 2011 Sales Graduates are eligible to earn bonus money at the end of the racing season through to 2015.


The points-based program will reward participa- tion, as well as productivity and performance in racing.


Horses offered through the sale with “Ontario Bred” and “Ontario Sired” status are eligible for additional racing opportunities and are eligible to earn special purse bonuses. The Ontario Bred Purse Bonus adds $3,500 to unre- stricted overnight purses and the Ontario Sired Purse Bonus adds $1,500 to unrestricted overnight purses.


Horses offered through the sale may also be eligible for the Post Racing Bonus, a points- based cash award for participants competing in barrel racing and pole bending with ex-racehors- es.


From May to October, Ajax Downs and


Fort Erie Race Track together will offer over 450 Quarter Horse racing opportunities in 2011 with more than $7 million dollars in purses and incen-


tives offered over this period. Stakes races alone will provide more than $1.7 million dollars in added money. This stakes program will repeat in 2012, with the addition of the $100,000 added Ontario Sires Stakes Derby.

Quarter Horse Industry Breeding Seminar


September 2, 2011, Toronto, ON – A special seminar on horse breeding practices is being held this fall in Fort Erie. The seminar will be of benefit to all interested horse breeders, particu- larly those with an interest in Quarter Horses. The session will be held:


Friday, October 7, 2011 1:00 p.m.

Topics will include:


• Planned breeding, herd improvement and crosses that work for racing; • Herd management practices to improve con- ception and increase the chances of full-term pregnancy; • Factors affecting fertility and early conception in the broodmare;


• Marketing stallions; and,


• Breeding racehorses for the Ontario racing pro- grams.

The following day, Saturday, October 8th, is opening day for the October Quarter Horse meet at Fort Erie Race Track and will feature the $150,000 added Ontario Jackpot Futurity and the $150,000 added Ontario Jackpot Derby.
