FOUL FEET

YOU don’t want to reveal a pair of crusty, cracked heels to the rest of the beach when you”re sunbathing on your tum, do you?

A good slathering of Flexitol balm £5.60 from Gibbs & Gurnell in Ryde - 01983 562570 - will reduce dryness and help healing.

POWER SLIMMING

THERE’S more to summer slimming than downsizing your Big Mac to a Quarter Pounder.

Cut back on refined, processed foods and sugar in the lead-up to your holiday and give body hot spots some attention.

Combining slimming products with targeted exercise on abs, glutes or thighs will tone you up in no time.

For a quick fix, try a DIY body wrap the night before you jet off.

Contact Beautify in Newport - 01983 533554 - or Bembridge Coast Hotel in Bembridge - 01983 873931 - to find out what they offer.

DIMPLE DILEMMAS

AS Kate Moss recently proved on a Paris catwalk, even skinny minnies can suffer from cellulite.

No matter how buff your body is, the dreaded orange peel or silver snake effect can be a beach body bugbear for many.

Drinking water is the best way to flush out toxins, but add twice-a day body brushing followed by a cellulite-busting cream.

See our Tried and Tested of the Month section for the best products.

BARE-FACED CHIC

THERE’S make-up and there’s beach make- up - and a world of difference between the two.

To be beach-proof, make-up must be hard working and durable. Stop make-up melting by using a matt primer under foundation to lock the base in place, then set all over with powder.

TAN IT UP

IT’S all about Seventies retro - darker, deeper tans are fashionable again.

But if that’s not for you, then you could opt for the lighter version, which is called the complexion tan.

This is about using products to enhance the skin with colour, but are not too overpowering.

Faces need to be lighter than bodies, so you should use a different product.

Remember to rub an ice cube over your face first to close the pores.

A wash-off mousse is a great quick fix and this is perfect for an instant tan. Start from the face and work down your body, leaving your hands and feet until last.

For instant luminosity, crush bronzer powder and mix with thick moisturiser. The combination of products reflect the light.

Before you apply your self-tanning product, go over your body with a wet wipe. This will ensure your tanner will go on more smoothly.

Try Clarins Delicious Self Tanning Cream from Jaks Hair & Beauty in Ryde - 01983 563771. It’s the most delicious non- streaky, odourless, self tanner we’ve ever used.

HAIR-MARE

A FORTNIGHT’S active sun exposure can do as much damage to your locks as a year of normal wear and tear.

It makes each hair expand and dry out, which splits or breaks the cuticle, damaging it permanently.

So protection from the sun is key if you want to take care of your crowning glory.

Use some form of light oil and work it through the hair to create a barrier between the powerful rays and your tresses.

The style this summer is rough-dried, sun- dipped, beach-friendly.

It is a 2011 twist on the scrunch-dry of the 70s and 80s.

Once hair has been washed, rough-dry it, twist into a bun, secure with a clip and leave to dry naturally.

Then all you have to do is shake it loose to achieve a wavy summer beach look.

You don’t need to use product, but could leave in some conditioner when you wash it.
