School still going greenchool still going green

LAMBTON High School has been looking a little green to promote environmental awareness. Green Day, the school’s annual environmental day for the past 11 years, recognises the importance of protecting the environment while engaging the school community. Each year, a theme is chosen and events are organised to combine music, a fashion parade, drama, good “green” food and artwork, all with an underlying environmental message.

This year’s Green Day had the slogan of “Tree On!”. One of the organisers Jessica Provost said the reason for the

focus was that 2011 was the United Nations International Year of Forests and climate change was very topical with the recent fl ooding in Queensland, Victoria and Tasmania and the cyclones. “We see this as an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of how important the environment is to our lives, demonstrate our strong commitment to protecting it, educate the school community and have a lot of fun along the way,” she said. “We believe that this message of environmental awareness should be shared with our local community.”
