Bachelor Girl’s back
HOME-GROWN pop sensations Bachelor Girl are delighted to announce that, due to an overwhelming response from fans, they will return to NSW in July for a series of fi ve up-close acoustic performances in some of the state’s most intimate venues. After a lengthy
hiatus, the duo reunited earlier this year to release their greatest hits album Loved & Lost: The Best of Bachelor Girl, which showcased some of the band’s best-loved hits, along with four previously unheard “lost” songs. A successful string of national shows
GET ready for one of the best double-bills doing the rounds. Two fi ne performers present a set of their latest material and then
come together for a knockout fi nale. Mr Percival is a master of the vocal loop. Using nothing but a
microphone, some pedals and his extraordinary vocal range, he creates a personal choir that is intimate and uplifting. Back last century, James Valentine was the sax player in the Models. He moved into television and most notably radio. He’s been the
afternoon presenter on 702 ABC Sydney for more than a decade. His current quartet is jazz, but not as most know it. He’s recorded an album of purely Australian rock classics, but
rearranged for the classic tenor sax quartet. Keyboards, double bass, drums and his lush saxophone sound explore songs by Midnight Oil, the Divinyls, Crowded House and Russell Morris. It’s a great tribute and a great new sound. At these shows, the night will fi nish with Mr Percival joining
the quartet and it’s a rare opportunity to hear him away from the loops and out the front in full voice.

followed, giving vocalist Tania Doko and keyboardist and producer James Roche a taste for the adrenaline rush of live shows. The pair is thrilled to be taking their dynamic sound to smaller venues, playing a selection of old favourites and new tunes. Bachelor Girl created waves in the
Australian and international music scenes in 1998 with their debut single Buses and Trains, taken from the double platinum-selling album Waiting for the Day, which claimed the
1998 ARIA for best producer. They secured pop icon status in 1999,
when Buses And Trains won the APRA song of the year and became PPCA’s most-played song on Australian radio, and continued to turn heads as the debut record spawned a further four smash-hit singles, including Treat Me Good and Permission to Shine. The 2002 follow-up release Dysfunctional had the band remain on an upward trajectory, featuring hits I’m Just a Girl and Drowning Not Waving. Reacquaint yourself with the sound of Bachelor Girl when they bring their unique acoustic sound to Lizotte’s Newcastle on Tuesday, July 26.
short ‘n’SWEET Mermaids and other SIRENS ON SAFARI
AFTER a few months in hibernation, the crusaders of forest-rock Jinja Safari, are embarking on the Mermaids & Other Sirens tour. On the cusp of carving a
trail supporting Boy and Bear on their sold-out national tour, Jinja Safari are ready for their own shows. The Sydney group promise to share the explosive live show that earned them the 2010 SMAC nomination for best live band at what will be their fi rst headline tour for 2011. So you can get your hands on some new Jinja tunes before the tour, Jinja Safari are trickling out the tracks that make up the Mermaids & Other Sirens EP to fans for a literal pittance. Like a joyful game of hide and seek, Jinja Safari have given a few of their friends in the media a track each to hide among their newsletters, blogs or websites as a free download. A new track will go online each month until the whole EP is released in August. The fi rst free download to kick off the Mermaids & Other Sirens collection was the new single Hiccups. It can be found among a
few other good treasures at Triple J’s website. The next is Scarecrow. Joining Jinja Safari nationally will be
Melbourne four-piece Husky whose new single History’s Door has been frequently on radio waves around the country. The Mermaids & Other Sirens tour with
Jinja Safari will be the fi rst taste of Husky’s new album Forever So which was recorded in a homebuilt studio in Melbourne before being sent to US to be mixed. They will be playing at the Northern Star
