Prestigious award as years of service are celebrated

ANNE McQueen has won the prestigious title of hospitality trainee of the year in the Hunter Regional Apprenticeship and Traineeship awards for 2011. It’s a double celebration for Ms McQueen, as she celebrates her 15th year of service with Hunter aged care provider Anglican Care.

Ms McQueen has had a long and progressive career with the organisation, starting as a volunteer and is currently acting as the kitchen co-ordinator in the food production unit which produces about 16,000 meals per week for Anglican Care residents across the Hunter and Central Coast Regions. Ms McQueen received the award for her help with Anglican Care students and trainees and for her dedication to her own studies.

“I was so excited just to be nominated for the award and to actually win this, I am just ecstatic,” she said.

“Undertaking the traineeship has opened so many new doors and is the reason I was able to gain and move into various positions throughout Anglican Care.

“It is such an honour to be recognised for what I have achieved and I believe the award should be shared among the organisation as they gave me and other trainees the opportunity to pursue tertiary studies, which I may not have had the opportunity to do otherwise.” Her studies and passion for learning have encompassed certificate III in hospitality/commercial cookery and certifi cate IV in hospitality/supervisory and she is currently studying her certifi cate III in nutrition and dietetic.
