Charting a musical map of the world
FROM Sicilian folk tunes to Columbian street songs and a new Australian work from renowned composer Peter Sculthorpe, the Song Company’s imaginative new concert will take audiences on a musical journey around the globe and across the ages. Audiences are invited to pack their bags
and head to the departure lounge to join Australia’s leading vocal ensemble as they create a musical map of the world with Time Traveller in Newcastle at the Newcastle Conservatorium on Thursday, August 18. Mapping the planet in musical
measurements, Time Traveller will bring together songs and stories about place, location and travel from the centre of the world to the periphery and back. The Song Company’s six singers will
perform a song about each of the cities they are visiting on the Time Traveller tour, from the little-known Brisbane Ladies to the timeless Botany Bay. “Maps are really quite beautiful to view and they tell us a lot about how the world and our culture has evolved over time, from the early maps with monsters and mythical creatures at the edge of the world to today’s precise
cartography,” Peelman said. He will delve further into the maps and music that
inspired Time Traveller in his pre-concert talks 30 minutes prior to the performance, making the concerts a must for all cartography enthusiasts and music lovers.
