Given my interaction style, I have brought on over 10 clients in the last year alone who connected with me on social media networks and were impressed with my dedication and attention to my clients individually. In all cases, we began by commenting on each other’s posts on Facebook and Twitter and developed a work relationship – Extremely easy and effortlessly.
Make it work! Ok, so you have the basics down and are ready to roll! Here are my live and die by tips to social media success. Tips for Maximizing Social Media:
• Update regularly. As with advertising, networking, website updates, and your business’ presence, you need to be consistent and be active. A few years back, nothing frustrated me more than websites that were not regularly updated – Now, I believe it is suicide if social media outlets are not updated. To me, if people are not

willing to do an update about their business, which takes 10 seconds, to their followers AKA their business fans, why should we care about their business?
• Engage with your networks. If someone communicates with you, respond back. In the online world, it is extremely easy to lose a personal touch. Stay connected with your supporting cast!
• Know the ‘ethics’ behind social media. There isn’t a manual but it’s common sense. Don’t go crazy and add everyone that your friends are friends with on Facebook or Twitter, don’t comment on every post to promote yourself and your business, and don’t send constant blast emails, event invitations, and suggestions. Be courteous and be respectful. In advertising, there is a lot of ‘noise’ that we need to break through to promote ourselves, but being a loud, obnoxious noise is a fast track to get blocked, deleted or marked as spam. Above and beyond, remember that these social media networks are social based and were built to create friendships and keep people connected.
• Be a consumer for yourself. You know what you like to see and you know what grabs your attention. Post what you would like to see and use tact.
