Breaking down the jargon First off, let me give you a brief description of the new trends in social media and where I highly suggest that you and your business are seen:

Facebook – Arguably, the most widely used of all social media sites. Facebook allows you to do everything from uniting with high school friends to promoting your upcoming events.

Twitter – View Twitter as the status update of Facebook; 140 characters to say what you need to say. You engage with followers by ‘tweeting’ to them and ‘retweeting’ their updates to your followers. This network seems to be the least understood, but to Twitter nerds like me, I hash tag, RT, and trend with the best of them!

FourSquare – The epitome of stalking (and currently gaining popularity by the

second). On FourSquare you ‘check in’ to venues (driven by the GPS on your Smartphone) and are alerted to where your friends are ‘checking in’. In turn, you compete for ‘mayorship’ of venues and ‘badges’ to showcase your high activity. This option is ideal for marketing your business, your clients, and positioning yourself as a mover and shaker.

LinkedIn- By far, the most professional of all social media sites. Ideal to find a job, gain clients, and network virtually.

MySpace – Well, don’t waste your time. That boat has sailed…

Just like fashion, find your style Time and time again, I am complemented for my social media style. I promote my events and clients in a fun way and at the same time, I offer a glimpse into my personal life. I am someone outside of Kim Hughes
