f you are a sports fan, specifically a motorsports and auto racing fan, you probably have noticed that 99.9% of the drivers are male. Things are starting to change. Over the last few years especially, women have been making their mark in the racing industry.

This month’s featured Woman With Know How, Candace Muzny, is someone who is taking the stereotype of women in racing, crushing it and leaving it far behind her in the dust.


Candace is a driver in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series. To those of you who may not know much about NASCAR, the Whelen All-American Series is one of the many divisions of NASCAR. It is not a race that you will see televised like the widely popular Friday (Camping World Truck Series), Saturday (Nationwide Series), or Sunday (Sprint Cup Series)

A racer is born Candace was born and raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and from her earliest recollections, racing was always a factor in her life. Growing up, her parents took her to the racetrack often where her cousins were active race car drivers. An interest in racing was sparked in Candace at an early age and added to that, her father owned a Texaco gas station and a towing company. Through her family’s businesses, she learned to work on cars and how to make repairs. In high school, Candace often drag-raced the boys on the weekends, an activity that proved lucrative and quenched her thirst for adrenaline and speed.


Finding her passion After graduating from high school, Candace stepped aside from racing,
