he Les Mills Ultimate Studio Search set out to find the finest group-exercise ven- ues available anywhere. And, with the help of club owners, operators, and staff and
fitness enthusiasts from throughout the world… it’s succeeding! The competition, sponsored by Les Mills Interna-
tional (LMI), the Auckland, New Zealand-based provider of a series of popular, prechoreographed group-exercise classes, concluded last month, and an all-star panel of judges is now evaluating the entries. The two grand-prize winners, who will be announced in the July issue of CBI, will each receive free trips for two to Auckland. The search was launched because of concerns that
many studios fell far short of providing the attractive, efficient, and inspiring environments that make for exciting and rewarding group-exercise classes. “Most of the studios in use today look more like a medical laboratory or an operating theater than a place created for people to have fun, be active, and celebrate life,” observes Phillip Mills, the founder and president of LMI. The Ultimate Studio Search is designed to correct
that shortcoming by identifying best-practice examples of cutting-edge studios and sharing information about them with the industry at large. Some of the finalists in the contest suggest how much there is to be learned… and profited from.
