members discussed the desire to identify a candidate who would grow with the town in the fu- ture. Root believes Boaz fits that profile.
“Given the career track he dis-
cussed, we think he is going to be with us for a long time,” he said. Following a lengthy interview
with Root and council mem- bers, as well as the satisfactory conclusion of a background in- vestigation, Boaz was officially brought aboard this week. He attended a council meeting where members discussed a re- cent pay and classification study Monday (Oct. 4). Boaz’s salary will start at
$80,000. He credited Morgan for his
work with the town, adding, “I have big shoes to fill.” Since Morgan stepped in as
town manager in 1992, the town has experienced signifi- cant growth to go along with the construction of a new town hall, police headquarters, public works facility, water treatment plant and
fire department as
well as extensive utilities and transportation infrastructure upgrades.
Banned books discussion Nancy Lewis will continue her annual series on banned books at 7 pm
on Tuesday (Oct. 12) at the Weaverville Library with a talk on D. H. Law- rence’s once infamous novel “Lady Chatterley’s Lover.” Tough banned for obscenity for over 30 years, today its sexual content may be less startling than its revelation of the social and environmental costs of industrializa- tion. Lewis is a retired English professor who continues to teach and lecture at
UNCA’s College for Seniors. Te Weaverville Library Friends is sponsor- ing the event. For more information, call the library at 250-6482.
