the Week is North Buncombe High School junior Colby Fox. Fox is a two-time recipient of the award. He is a wide receiver and defensive


back on the football team and plays baseball in the spring. Fox, 16, is hoping to attend a


four-year university, study political science and play baseball. He hopes


to one day attend law school. His parents are Jimmy and Lori


Fox of Weaverville. Bill Boughton of Edward Jones presented Fox with his award.

SECU holds campaign to support troops


State Employees’ Credit Union


(SECU) staff and members have launched a holiday campaign to benefit North Carolina’s National Guard (NCNG) and


Reservists deployed throughout the world called “SECU Supports the Troops.” The campaign will initiate the collection of


wish list items for the soldiers, providing gifts from home during their tour of duty. All 233 branches, like the one in


Weaverville, will collect items, as well as monetary donations to help defray shipping costs of items to the soldiers. The


campaign will conclude Oct. 15, allowing time for SECU personnel to sort and package items for overseas distribution.
