Band takes several top awards at Land of Sky
The North Buncombe BlackHawk Band continues to shine. Te North Buncombe High School Black-
Hawk Band received six top honors during the 36th annual Land of Sky Marching Band competition Saturday (Oct. 2) at Enka. Judges named the band the sweepstakes
winner, as well as first-place honors for Class 4-A, color guard, drum major and music. Te band received a second-place award for percussion. Nineteen area bands competed overall,
including three other bands in North Bun- combe’s class. Bands received ratings based on mu-
sic performance, individual music perfor- mance, music effect, visual effect and visual performance. Class and sweepstakes win-
Park workday Te Town of Weaverville will be sponsoring a “Work-
day in the Park” from 9 am to 11 am on Saturday (Oct. 9). Te objective of the workday will be to work on the removal of the exotic invasive plants in the Main Street Nature Park. Volunteers are asked to bring work gloves, pruning shears, drinking water, and a willing- ness to work, get dirty and have fun helping improve the community.
Mt. Bethel Freewill Baptist yard sale
A yard sale will be held from 8 am to 1 pm on
Saturday (Oct. 9) at Mt. Bethel Freewill Baptist Church located at 290 Sheppard Branch Road near Weaverville. Household items, clothing, baked goods are more will be available. Proceeds go to- ward mission projects.
