Joletha Blackwell West Weaverville - Joletha “Jo” Blackwell
West, age 92, formerly of Weaverville, died Tuesday, September 21, 2010, in Advance. Jo was born July 13, 1918, in Claren-
don County, S.C., to the late Olie Rufus and Mary Emma Corbett Blackwell. She attended Woodfin High School, graduating in 1934. Upon graduation she entered Mr. Ard’s Beauty School and became a hairdresser working at the Grove Arcade building. She opened a beauty shop in Weaverville and many of her customers followed her there. Jo was a member of Weaverville United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Matilda Dryman Cir- cle. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Edwin C. West, who died in 1972; daughter, Barbara White; and brother, Olie Earl Blackwell. Surviving are her sister, Rosa Erlene
Allison of Kinston; brothers, Julian Rufus “J.R.” Blackwell of Woodfin and Burnice Eugene “Gene” Blackwell and wife Ruth of Arden; several nieces and nephews. Her funeral service was held at 2:30
pm on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Mer- rimon Ave., Weaverville, with the Rev. Beverly W. Colombo officiating. Burial was in West Memorial Park. Te family received friends one
hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Flowers were acceptable and appreci-

M. Jean Tesner Clark Asheville - M. Jean Tesner Clark,
age 76, of 95 Elkmont Drive died Tues- day, Sept. 28, 2010. Jean was born June 24, 1934, in
Buncombe County where she had lived all of her life. She was a daughter
of the late Wil- liam Clyde and Florence Evelyn Bradley Tesner. In addition to her parents, she was also preced- ed in death by her sisters, Nelle T. Hyatt and
Shirley Crisp. Surviving are her daughters, Sharon
Diane Stephenson and Brenda Kay Rice, both of Asheville; granddaugh- ters, Brandy Burchum and husband Joe, and Ashley Gunter; great grand- son, Zane Burchum; sisters, Frances Burrell of Almond, Kathleen Hensley of Asheville, Irene Robinson, Carolyn Sprouse and Libby Rice, all of Weav- erville. Her funeral service was held at 2:30
pm on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with the Rev. Sonia Burleson officiating. Burial was in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. Te family received friends from 6
pm to 8 pm on Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at the funeral home. At other times the family was at the

Oscar Jerome Hensley Weaverville - Oscar Jerome Hensley,
90, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010 at Madison Manor Nursing Cen- ter following a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Buncombe

County, Mr. Hensley worked as a car- penter with H.M. Rice Construction for 35 years. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Hensley was the son of the late
Richard and Ora Spears Hensley. He was also preceded in death by sisters:
Evelyn Chan- dler, Elizabeth Penland and Delova Edwards; and brothers: Buster and Wen- dell Hensley. Surviving are
his wife of 64 years: Mildred
Maynard Hensley; daughters: Jeanette Hensley Sexton and Christine Hensley, both of Weaverville; granddaughter, Melissa Sexton Wilson of Alexander; great-granddaughters: Madeleine and Catrina Wilson of Alexander; sisters: Dorothy McKinney and Betty McK- inney, both of Weaverville, Barbara Penland of Arden, and Norma Webb of Black Mountain; brother: Billy Hensley of Weaverville; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 6:30 pm
on Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Troy Rogers and Rev. John Coffey officiating. Graveside services were held at 10 am
on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. Te family received friends from
