virtual tie with his GOP opponent John Raese. This will be close, but strong conservative turnout in this election and the President’s unpop- ularity here I think leads to a Raese win. GOP pick up #8.

SHAFER from 8 6. Illinois (Open Seat) President

Obama’s old Senate seat could end up in Republican hands. So, no doubt the President and Democratic leaders are fighting hard on behalf of Democrat Alexi Giannoulias. He has faced problems with corrupt behavior at his old family bank and his Republican opponent Mark Kirk has faced problems with embellish- ing his military record. As in Nevada, both candidates are not well-liked. Illinois is a Democratic state, but Gi- annoulias is a fairly weak candidate and GOP enthusiasm is high this year. Kirk has a small lead in recent polls (the RCP avg. has Kirk up by almost 2 pts). I predict Kirk wins

7. California (Barbara Boxer)The

fact that Sen. Boxer’s seat in deep blue California is in trouble is a sign of the anti-Democrat climate. But Democrat Jerry Brown is beginning to pull away from Meg Whitman in the Governors’ race, which will likely lead to coattails for major Demo- cratic candidates on the ballot in CA—one of whom is Boxer. This race will be close—one of the tougher ones she’s faced—but Boxer wins in my prediction.

8. Washington (Patty Murray)

This is the race that I believe will de- cide whether the GOP wins control of the Senate. The race has been clos- ing. Senator Murray had a decent lead a couple weeks ago, but Rossi has come back strong and is behind

dates hold dear then they will have a good perspective as to how that candidate will vote in the future.” NH House candidate Greg Hill: “In our district, we have four very good conservatives

by about 2 in the RCP average. Un- like in California, there is no strong Democratic governor performance to bring Democratic coattails down to Murray. According to the RCP analy- sis if this race, Murray has unloaded nearly all her money for ads against Rossi. That could hurt her in the end as undecided voters I believe break for the Republican challenger Rossi. Rossi wins narrowly and the GOP wins control of the Senate.

Kevin Shafer is a recent gradu-

ate from Florida Gulf Coast Univer- sity with a B.A. in Political Science, a member of College Republicans and is working this summer for Marco Ru- bio’s U.S. Senate campaign and Re- publican Matt Caldwell’s Florida State House campaign in Florida. This fall, he will be pursuing a M.A. in Political Science with a concentra- tion in Political Campaigning at the University of Florida.

Please look for us on the ballot: Jenn Coffey, Seth Cohn, and Ken Kreis, and Greg Hill.” They are candidates on the ballot in (District 6) Andover, Salisbury, Bos- cawen, Canterbury, and Northfield.

Laconia does not need a new high school. It’s just Lynch pandering - again.. I have noticed that in my community those Demo- crats seeking a seat in the NH House as incumbents or first-timers are not talking issues. How would they dare to? SHAKING MY HEAD:

A glossy paid for by NH DEMOCRATIC STATE COMMITTEE, Ray Buck- ley, Chair, informing us about a Republican candi- date for STATE Senator. According to Buckley: The Republican candidate will eliminate the Department of HHS, Social Security and Medicare”. Who are the Democrats trying to scare? Ray, you insult the intelligence of “senior citi- zens”. We know that the state senate has nothing to do with Social Security or Medicare - and HHS will remain in operation. Your party is showing its desperation to hold control of us - shame on you!
