“Witches, Pop Culture and the Past”
The Pierce Brigade presents “Witches, Pop Culture and
the Past” a program by Dr. Robin DeRosa on Thursday, October 28th at 7pm. This program is sponsored by the New Hampshire Humanities Council and is part of a year long series focused on New Hampshire history and culture. Held at the Pierce Manse in Concord, the Brigade Lecture Series is free and open to the public. In 1692 in Salem, Massachusetts, 19 people were ex-
ecuted and hundreds imprisoned during a witch hunt we still discuss today in everyday conversation, pop culture, and American literature. On October 11th British Cars of New Hampshire presented a check to the High Hopes Foundation. The $8500.00 check represents the proceeds from the BCNH All British Car Show held on August 7th & 8th at The Nick in Wolfeboro, NH. British Cars of New Hampshire is an organization devoted to the preservation, restoration and enjoyment of all British automobiles. from the New Hampshire Humanities Council to present ‘Baked Beans and Fried Clams: How Food Defines a Re- gion.” This program will be presented on Monday, November 8th, at 7pm, at the Chichester Grange/Town Hall, 54 Main Street. Edie Clark, author of “Saturday Beans and Sunday Sup-
pers,” will speak about foods distinctive to New England. Beanhole beans, johnnycakes, chocolate chip cookies, and pork pies all originally came from New England like so many of the customs and mores familiar to all. This presentation is informative, humorous, and. chock full of fascinating tidbits about the history of regional foods. Some of New England’s more famous foodies - Fanny Farmer, Hayden Pearson, and Julia Child - will be referenced. This program is free and open to the public. Refreshments
will be served after the program by the Historical Society members.
