SPN OCT 2010 Saunas&Steam

www.swimmingpoolnews.co.uk

A new electronic control panel to set and control domestic or commercial sauna heater or steam room generator operations remotely comes from Golden Coast

Impression offers either a traditional sauna or soothing steam sauna, or dual units offering separate sauna and steam shower. The exterior is available in a choice of colours to suit your decor. Steam shower rooms use Tylö’s steam generators and have a large fixed shower rose as well as a small hand-held shower. The ingenious design is versatile enough to offer front or corner doors depending upon the space available and all models can seat one or two adults comfortably, while the 2.2sq metre model can seat two adults and two children. Whether in a home or alongside a swimming pool or in a spa the key to what has grown to be an important part of the wet leisure industry is all about wellness.

The message about the benefits of both systems is now more accepted.

A heavy sauna-induced sweat helps cleanse and rejuvenate your skin – much more than just a bath or shower alone. Both sauna and steam baths are therapeutic, but the high moisture

content in a steam room is especially good for respiratory problems.

Sauna benefits include a strengthened immune system, improved blood circulation, enhanced detoxification processes and tension and stress relief. As your body increases sweat production to keep cool, your heart works harder pumping more blood at a greater rate. This provides many of the conditioning benefits of aerobic exercise.

More and more people initially turned to local leisure facilities in a bid to use high quality sauna and steam room facilities. For pool operators, this has offered a real opportunity to increase business, and many commercial swimming pool and leisure centre managers now claim swimmers expect an all-round experience. This includes the use of saunas and steam rooms.

The growth of the sector is certainly linked to intense product development over the past 10 years. The saunas are more sophisticated, in terms of technology and aesthetic appeal.

Sauna manufacturer Tylö has played a key product development role in that upgrade in quality. The Swedish company has had a 25 year relationship with Golden Coast in the UK. Shaun Adams of Golden Coast says: “The brand has become synonymous with quality. There is a huge new wave of interest in saunas which is I admit difficult to quantify but it is all part of the well being experience. Price is a factor in one respect but not in another as buyers are aware of the quality and the support from the brand.” Tylö has led the way in introducing classic sauna rooms and linked in shower combinations. Products continue to be developed to cater for more discerning clients. The company has now introduced a practical overhead ceiling shower that can be used as a pre- or post-bathing shower in any wet area adjacent to a swimming pool, sauna and steam suite or to create a wet room. Tylö has also introduced the Tonic Tx 202g steam-shower column that can turn any recess in a swimming pool changing room or health suite into a steam room. The column is equipped with an in-built steam generator feeding a discreet steam outlet, a hand shower and a fixed overhead shower head.

The steam functions are controlled from an external panel, whilst all shower functions are at the discretion of the bather. Available as a stand- alone unit, the Tonic can also be combined with Tylö’s glazed wall sections and a steam door to create a steam room. If required a custom-made dome to ‘seal’ the room can be supplied. In the same way, the recently introduced ‘Impression IX210’ combined sauna-steam unit can utilise any spare recess to provide bathers with a choice of dry hot sauna or temperate steam from a single unit.
