A bespoke sauna wet room from Dröm UK
The sauna, steam and shower market has matured over the past five years to provide glamorous, often bespoke, facilities in luxury hotels, spas swimming pools and now significantly in private homes. It’s driven and succeeds totally on quality and design
reat products tend to create great markets and the luxury, style and design of the new generation of saunas, steam rooms and showers products has, it seems, seduced consumers in a way which couldn’t have been expected five years ago. Saunas, steam rooms and showers are part of the day-to-day wet leisure experience and are in demand as luxury items for private homes as much as anywhere else.

They have attracted luxury home builders, luxury hotels and spas who not only want to offer the health benefits the often bespoke facilities bring but package them in luxury surroundings. One unexpected impact of the recession over
the past 18 months has been families spending on luxury in their homes – rather than moving house. The sauna, steam room and shower markets have all benefited from this. Yet there’s nothing lucky about the continuing growth of this market.
Longhirst Hall in Northumberland is a perfect example. It has just opened a new luxury spa which includes a traditional sauna, a steam room, an aromatherapy room, foot spas, and a monsoon shower. The installation was completed by Dalesauna but the owners wanted to make the most of what they call “the sheer luxury of a wet leisure experience”.

our spa facilities,” said a spokesman for Longhirst Hall. “People love luxury and the products on the market now offer them it in abundance. They are getting used to such luxury at home and certainly expect it from a spa. The interest in the health benefits is huge and we wanted to provide the experience to match it “
While facilities like those at Longhirst Hall were once limited to a spa or luxury hotel, they have now been added to families looking to bring luxury and glamour into their homes. Space is rarely a problem. Now what is available is a complete spa experience, sauna, steam room and shower – compact enough to fit into any standard bathroom. Impression, by Swedish manufacturer, Tylö, is designed to suit small spaces, with models available from just 1.3sq metres. Impression is based on a system of profiles that offers freedom of choice in the minimum of space, by allowing you to vary configuration, exterior finishes and bathing experiences.
