special touch sensitive activators on the Splashpad which causes the stream to fill and the Splashpad items to begin on a pre programmed sequence. This sequencing means that the system retains the water in the underground reservoir tanks whilst there are no users on the Splashpad. This helps to conserve water and chemicals by keeping the water below ground, out of the sunlight and contained within the tanks, it also means the system is drained down over night minimising the risk of contamination and accidents.

In the surroundings of historic Gheluvelt Park, Worcester, a new style Splashpad has replaced an outdated paddling pool with an up to date PWTAG compliant water play environment.

The design, conceived by Plinke Landscapes, involved the use of a contoured surface with large boulders which adds a more subtle, natural feel to the Splashpad. The use of soft lines and natural colours helps the Splashpad blend into the surroundings of this Green Flag awarded park in a way the original paddling pool did not.

Desjoyaux UK has officially opened its latest display site operating at Notcutts Garden Centre, Staines. The new site will offer customers a chance to view the range of Desjoyaux products and the integrated pipe-free filtration systems and the permanent active casing pool construction that have revolutionised the UK pool market. This technology has removed the need for traditional underground pipework eliminating the need for backwashing and wasted treated water and expensive pool houses.

Desjoyaux pools are available in any shape or size you choose and can be constructed in around 15 days. They are offered complete with everything you need including Roman Steps, Economic Heat Pumps, Water Treatment Systems and a comprehensive range of covers and shelters to keep the pool warm and inviting whatever the weather. Running the new outlet is Jerome Lagden: ”Desjoyaux products have a lot to offer and this Staines site gives us access to a lot of pool and potential pool owners.”

children to create their own games with the water, damming the stream or splashing around in the pools. Splashpad products at various locations add more structured opportunities for play and provide different water textures. The high level cane feature provides a method of filling the top pool as well as being a more engaging feature for older children and creating rainbows as the sun catches the falling sprays.

During normal operation the water is passed from one tank which collects the water from the feature, through a water treatment system consisting of flocculant dosing; deep bed, medium rate sand filtration, chlorine dosing and pH control. This water is then returned to a separate tank, from where it is pumped through a UV sterilisation system then out onto the Splashpad. This ensures that 100% of the water being played with by the children has been filtered and sterilised to a high standard.

NATURAL POOLS GET OWN TRADE ASSOCIATION

A new trade association has been set up to support the growth of natural swimming pools in the UK. The British Association for Natural Swimming Pools (BANSP) was launched in June, its aims are to: • To improve credibility and strength as an industry;

• To create standards for NSP designers and builders, and to inform end users accordingly;

• To disseminate information and raise the industry’s level of PR;

• To collect and pool knowledge and experience (nationally and internationally);

• To provide resources for independent arbitration.

One of its first moves was to organise an inaugural conference at Capel Manor in Enfield, to discuss the structure and some of the challenges and questions in setting up our industry’s new trade association. The meeting in late September was due to discuss experiences on the continent, UK natural pools, legal requirements for public pools, and proposed guideline standards for domestic and public pools. It was also planned to have the opportunity to view some local installations, while continuing informal discussion.
