submarine duty while stationed in a surface to air guided missile service unit at Hingham, Ma. I had served aboard sever- al surface ships, includ- ing Amphibious ships, a Mine sweeping ship and an Aircraft Carrier. The submarine service sounded interesting and I could get further training in the new Polaris mis- sile system. I found the submarine crews, both enlisted and officers, to be of a higher caliber, more focused and goal oriented than surface ships I had previously served aboard. “The submarine quali-
