On Tuesday, September 28th, The Remick Museum &
Farm in Tamworth will be holding a Bean Hole Supper.Seat- ings will be at 5 and 6pm. The menu will include ham and beans, potato salad, corn bread and for dessert, fruit cobbler. Farm Museum will hold a Soap Making Workshop from 6:30- 8:30pm at the Plummer Homestead Learn to make your own soap and laundry detergent in
this two hour hands-on workshop. Make a cold processed soap and a basic non-allergenic laundry detergent. The Amoskeag Mills Story On Thursday, September 23rd, the Centre Harbor His-
torical Society welcomes Aurore Eaton to speak about the history of the Amoskeag Mills, along the Merrimac River, in Manchester. This company, which lasted from 1831 to 1936, was a
major producer of textiles,and also manufactured steam lo- comotives and steam fire engines. Amoskeag set the wheels in motion for the development of Manchester, the only large- scale planned city in New England. The meeting will be held in Center Harbor, NH at the Schoolhouse Museum on Rt 25B at 7pm. Refreshments will be served after the program. The program is free.
WWII Firearm Collectors Seminar On Saturday, September 25, from 10am-2pm, the
Wright Museum of WWII History will host a special sympo- sium exploring the firearms used by Allied and Japanese forces in the Pacific during WWII. Guns of the Pacific will feature several presentations by experts who will discuss the firearms carried by American, Japanese, Australian, and New Zealand forces in the Second World War. Presenters include Mike Hashem, an authority on Japa-
nese WWII militaria and the proprietor of Old Post Office Antiques in Ossipee; Paul Levasseur of History Alive N.H. and an expert on the firearms of Canada and the British Commonwealth; and Randy Cook, a longtime collector, WWII re-enactor, and specialist in the weaponry of the U.S. Army and Marine Corps. In addition to the seminar, the Wright Museum’s new ex-
hibit, Helmet to Boots: The Combat Gear of the WWII Ameri- can Infantryman will be on view. Drawing from the vast WWII collections of the Wright Museum, the exhibition will be on display in the museum’s lobby through Sept. 25. Tickets to Guns of the Pacific are $10 and $8 for Wright Museum members. The Wright Museum is located at 77 Center Street in Wolfeboro.
