in Perambulation, consid- ered today as an ancient law to mark borders. In the 1800s this was done every ten years. Today many communities send the perambulators out every seven years. Former Salisbury resi-
dent, who was living and working in Franklin, ap- proached this writer and asked: “Fay, do you know how the Webster Farm and birthplace became part of Franklin?” Being a young writer at the time, it was news to me! “The leaders of Franklin got the Salisbury Selectmen ‘drunk’ before going on a walk over the boundary lines, being sure to in- clude the Webster Farm and Birthplace in the Franklin side of petition to the Legislature.” Both histories allude to
controversy, but do not enlarge on how the issues were settled and this is the first time the writer has put this anecdote in print and is not prepared to swear upon a stack of Bibles as to its truth, but has included it in this story merely as a human- interest aspect. The Franklin Histori-
cal Society has a 100- year lease on the Webster Mansion and Tay House. Members of the Historical Society are busy restoring the Mansion to its origi- nal glory, cataloguing the many files and artifacts given to the Society, to protect and catalogue for everyone to enjoy and enrich their knowledge of Franklin and its people. Maur i c e Tandy , a
Franklin native, is the only Franklin citizen to serve on the USS Daniel Webster SSBN 626. He joined the U. S. Navy in July 1951. Maurice was a member of the com- missioning crew (blue) 1964 and served on this submarine for 3 and ½ years. He served a total of 20 years before retiring in September 1971. Returning to Franklin
as a permanent resident, Maurice has taken a keen interest in community activities. Included in his many activities is the Franklin Historical Soci- ety where he is assisting
in setting up an exhibit of artifacts from the USS Daniel Webster SSBN 626 collected by and dis- played in a large glassed in display case for every- one to appreciate. It is from these per-
sonal ties with this great submarine that he col-
lects memorabilia from the ship for the Franklin Historical Society exhibit. The original commanding officer, Marvin Blair Sr. (Blue Crew) generously donated many pieces of ships memorabilia for dis- play in the Tay House. With five branches in
the military for a young man to choose from: Army, Air Force, Marine Corps and Navy, which fall under the Department of Defense and the Coast Guard which falls under Department of Homeland Security. Currently the Coast Guard is deeply in-

and ultimately be selected to serve on the USS Dan- iel Webster SSBN 626? The USS Daniel Webster
