DOUBTS OVER HOUSING MARKET PERSIST Despite
expiring federal tax credits pushing local home sales to their highest monthly total in ten months – 538 single-family,
existing homes were sold – April’s housing data ultimately offered more questions than answers. For the fifth consecutive month, year-over-year sales growth in Brevard
County remained negative, falling 5% since April 2009. Statewide, sales have been exhibiting positive year-over-year growth since September 2008. The improved month-to-month sales in Brevard also did not translate
into higher prices but rather continued a three-month decline as the market labors under a glut of distressed inventory and stubbornly high unemployment fears.
