big kick in the butt with an airplane accident.... just a hard landing, but I was left with a severe whiplash and my career as a matchmaker and seminar leader was over. I came to Bali and painted, got healthy and began a new life.
When did you fi rst take up Tarot reading?
I began reading the Tarot as a Love Child of the Seventies in San Francisco and was doing so many readings that at one point, I began reading without the cards. I found it frightening to be a “psychic,” just talking out of my head, without the intervention of Spirit guiding the cards, and so have always stayed with the visual display and symbolism that the Tarot offers.
Andrea Brae:
Intuitive Tarot
Andrea Brae grew up in an innocent time in the suburbs of Columbus, Ohio on Rainbow Park just across the street from a cookie factory. She went to Ohio State University and took graduate courses in counseling psychology. Before moving to Bali, she had an exciting career as a model, teacher, journalist/ feature writer for major American dailies, actress,
singer/karaoke host, academic researcher, publisher, then for twenty years the director of the SoulMates Center with offi ces in San Diego, Orange County, and San Francisco. Currently Andrea lives and works in Ubud.
What person has deeply affected you? Why do you do this work?
I had a wonderful mother, a sort of goddess Dewi Saraswati. She supported and nurtured the gifts I’d received and made sure I had abundant opportunities to actualize them. Lots of lessons: tap, toe, ballet, piano, voice, acting, swimming, painting.
Were you interested in divination as a child?
Yes. When I read books on reincarnation and our eternal spiritual existence, I would be moved to tears. At twelve I wrote a play about the immortality of the soul, and the possibility of communicating with a Higher Intelligence.
What was your fi rst “spiritual” experience?
When I was nine, a friend came around with a Ouiji Board and I suddenly realized that there are some wonderful and strange energies around us that are beyond what we ordinarily see. I put my hands on the cursor, and the board went mad. My curly hair must have stood out straight on my head when I asked the Ouiji God what were the then unknown middle names of my friends, and immediately got all the correct answers.
What’s your professional background?
I was a famous matchmaker in California in the ‘80’s and 90’s. I usually “got it right” within four introductions, did counseling, taught seminars and am responsible for hundreds of marriages and have babies named after me. It was my calling and I loved it!
What are your hobbies?
I like reading, writing, singing, painting, and raising Pomeranian pups and Persian kittens. I just now completed a book based on my 20 years of research in my work as a
matchmaker: Matchmaker’s Guide to Hooking Up.... A
Compatibility Guide for Singles. It will be offered on Amazon. com next December.
How did you ever wind up in Bali?
After a long career in matchmaking, I wanted to explore myself in other areas, but couldn’t for the life of me fi gure out how I could leave my clients. Spirit gave me a great
I was given this gift from Spirit and so it is my destiny it to help others. People come to me in heaviness and leave so relieved! My particular joy is seeing that, at the end of the session, he or she expresses greater insight into their own particular life course. There is generally an end to confusion, a renewed optimism, greater awareness and trust in Spirit, an ability to move forward with confi dence and to apply new problem-solving strategies.
How do you know if your readings are accurate?
I send out an evaluation after a reading for follow up information. In most cases, clients confi rm that the reading’s predictions came to pass.
What is the most common misconception about Tarot?
That a reading’s outcome is immutable, that our lives our predestined. Through the Tarot, I am able to forecast patterns that are emerging through the actions of the past and the present. The client does not have to surrender to what is predicted. We do have free will. The Tarot tells us about our issues and the challenges and opportunities facing us. Sometimes the news is good, and sometimes it isn’t. The more information we have, the easier it becomes to change direction, head off a problem, or help some wonderful development come into reality.

Did you have a teacher?
It all began with a class, but like most everything I do, my learning has been auto-didactic…passionate self-study. To read the Tarot requires on-going study, refl ection and humility.
How does it actually work?
It seems to me that a benevolent spirit must watch from the astral planes, waiting to give advice on our personal problems or relationship issues. I am just a channel of communication from Spirit. Over and over these many years in my work with hundreds of people, the most appropriate and specifi c cards will somehow show up in the randomly picked selection, giving insight and advice.

The symbolic images of the Tarot are the language I access to communicate with Spirit. As I read the cards, a story begins to emerge. I piece together the pictures as snapshots of the client’s life. I then fi nd the thread, the theme of the reading, that connects the pieces.
