St. Regis Bali Impresses Again with its German ‘Spargelkarte’ Menu (22nd – 30th May)
The St. Regis Bali communicates sumptuousness through an impressive range of services of which its renowned butler service, eclectic dining options, Remède Spa, 3.668 square metres of swimmable lagoon, beachfront wedding venue and water sports centre are just a few examples. St. Regis’ Boneka and Kayuputi Restaurants – home to a re- markable two-storey wine cellar – have been recognised with a prestigious award by the reputable Wine Spectator Magazine. The resort itself was awarded with the title of ‘World’s 50 Best New Hotels’ by
ForbesTraveller.com in November 2008. Since opening in September of that same year, St. Regis Bali has claimed noteworthy awards for its paramount accommodation, overall VIP service, excep- tional architecture and superb location. Perhaps the most talked about admiration derives from Boneka Restaurant’s all-encompassing breakfast experience. The delicacies at the Boneka Sunday Brunch (Sundays throughout May) – such as the freshly squeezed vitamin drinks, subtle varia- tions on St. Regis’s creation ‘Bloody Mary’, the envied Boneka Eggs Benedict, and fi ne selection of sashimi with organic miso soup – are complemented by live jazzy tunes and coated in the extravagant sweetness of chocolate fountains of which Willie Wonka himself would be envious. In addition to the much talked about Sunday Brunch, St. Regis Bali invites all who love a sumptuous six-course de- gustation dinner featuring the time-honoured ‘Spargelkarte’ menu – German white asparagus – combined with Russian caviar, Bali Lobster Tail and excellent wines selected by four-time Wine Spectator Award Winner, Harald Wiesmann, to enjoy the German tradition from 22nd until 30th May at the renowned resort.

permaculture education) invites you to receive inspiration, empowerment and a chance to connect with our planet. Are you ready to heal yourself and the planet? The exceptional programme includes ‘Healing our bodies and the Earth with Mushrooms’, ‘Seed Saving and Creating a Seed Bank’, ‘Sustainable Cooking’, and ‘Sustaining the Art of Batik, Weav- ing and Natural Dyeing’, amongst other themed workshops. The name ‘Tri Hita Karana’ was derived from Sanskrit. In Balinese culture the three words are of great importance as they symbolise the three aspects believed to bring about wellbeing (Tri means three, Hita means wellbeing, and Karana means cause). The harmonious relationships toward wellbeing are (1) spiritual environment – the relationship between humans and God – (2) social environment – the relationship between humans and their fellow man – (3) natural environment – the relationship between humans and the universe, environment and other creatures. The harmony between these three aspects is believed to generate maxi- mum benefit to human beings; spiritually, mentally and physically. Galungan – a celebration to honour the spirits and the Creator of the Universe – takes place twice a year. The festival is of great importance to the Balinese as it symbolises the victory of good over evil through the descent of the gods and ancestors’ spirits to earth. Hari Raya Galungan is all about gratitude towards these spirits. The colourful food and fl ower sacrifi ces, rituals and festivities that go hand in hand with this humongous celebration are meant to welcome and entertain the visiting spirits, as well as to express hopes for protection. The island takes on a different form during Galungan. Tall bamboo poles called ‘penjor’ – the Balinese’s version of Christmas trees, if you will – are decorated with fruit, coconut leaves and fl owers, and are fl aunted on the right-hand-side of each islander’s home. Quite a pretty sight for passersby. The gods and ancestors that have made their way down from the skies return on Kuningan, the day that concludes this momentous celebration.
