We all want to look our best with radiant faces, but beauty is more than just skin deep, these treatments actually benefi t our bodies.

The face is usually the fi rst thing we notice about a person that refl ects the state of health. A clear radiant face glowing with health is found on almost all children and is the ideal of everyone. Women and men spend fortunes on face creams and elixirs promising to give them a radiant wrinkle free face. Unfortunately we’re not all born with perfect skin but with a healthy diet, regular facials and good skin care products we can achieve a clear healthy face. The skin needs lots of vegetables and fruit to provide nutrients for the skin. Alcohol dries the skin and smoking causes damage to the skin and wrinkles around the mouth. But even if we don’t follow a totally healthy lifestyle, we can still have good looking skin by taking care of it.

A daily cleansing program is vital to healthy skin, both in the morning and at night. While we sleep at night, the body repairs itself, so applying a night cream is extremely benefi cial after the age of 26. During the day apply a sunscreen to protect against harmful UVA rays, which causes the most damage to our skin. In Bali, we can’t avoid them, so protect yourself.

Contrary to popular belief, acne is not caused by eating chocolate or fried food but it is a hormonal imbalance causing excess sebum in the skin. Some people are born with oily skin, which in later life is actually a blessing as the skin is slower to dry out and wrinkle. But as a teenager oily skin is a curse. The occasional outbreak of pimples is normal for most teenagers usually caused by stress or a bad diet. But severe acne is a nightmare to live through with red pustules covering the face. The pustules can easily spread and become in- fected, sometimes resulting in scarring. This person cannot have a facial but they require professional help from a doctor to remedy the cause. Unless you have severe acne, having regular facials will improve your skin dramatically. If your skin is in bad condition you may need 2 or 3 facials a week for a month to restore the skin to a state of health. Then the num- ber of facials may be reduced to once a week and eventually once or twice a month.

Traditional facials use fresh fruits, nuts, herbs, roots, clays or honey to give excellent results or commercial products are often used in salons, clinics and spas. Some of these may contain vitamins, acids, chemicals and even diamond or gold dust! The facial product industry is huge with the best products hailing from Europe, US and Australia. It’s not just the women who spend small fortunes on these products but men have realized that they need to take care of their skin to remain youthful looking. Many companies now offer products espe- cially for men, who have different skin than women. Men’s skin is not only thicker but also contains more sebum, which makes them age slower and more gracefully. Now we know why men continue to look younger than their wives as they age.

The benefi ts of a facial include: to thoroughly cleanse the face and remove black & white heads from the pores; the scrub or peel removes the dead skin, which stimulates the production of new skin cells; the face massage increases the blood
