The organisers are proud to introduce a brand new event to the show with national significance. The sheep dog trials have around 60 dogs entered to date, so an early start of 8.30 am is necessary. This will be the last qualifying event and carrying vital points towards the national finals, so we can expect a tense competition. Not many people are able to experience the amazing skills of these very intelligent animals, and the age old tradition of man and dog working together. If anyone utters the phrase “ Get down Shep,” the tug of war boys have instructions to remove them from the showground.

Right Girls, on the next whistle we all scarper. OK !

Dogs play a big part in The Show not only with the new sheep dog trials and the Tricks for Treats display, but also with about 150 show classes, for Kennel Club registered dogs and a Companion Show, open to all pedigree or

non-pedigree dogs. The Open Show offers classes for around 35 different breeds, as well as a fair number of variety classes, which are open to more than one breed. This is one of the few shows still offering prize money for main winners and this year the Dog Section is sponsored by Cobbydog, which enables special prizes in most of the classes. The Companion show is open to all dogs over the age of 6 months, pedigree and non-pedigree, crossbreeds and mongrels. Entries are taken from 10am on the day, £1.00 per class, judging starts at 12.30pm. With this type of show, all proceeds are donated to local charities, and this year will be the Lancashire Air Ambulance. Fun classes this year include: Waggiest Tail, Most appealing eyes, Best ears, Best condition, Best long- and short-haired, Best 6 legs, and ………………………...
