Houston Primary School
The Family Sponsored Walk organised by the School Council was well
attended with over 200 taking part in the walk and the other activities
arranged for the event. Our thanks to members of Gryffe Valley Rotary
Club for providing Stewards, ensuring the safety of all who took part.
Hopefully the event will have raised about £1,000 for School funds.
The next big family event will be the Annual BBQ on Friday 5th June.
This is always an enjoyable evening with the usual activities for children
and with the customary visit of a Fire Engine by courtesy of Strathclyde
Fire Services. A number of changes in the organisation of the event will
be introduced. If you are a parent able to help on the evening it is not
too late to offer your services!
P1 to P3 pupils Sports events took place in the school grounds and
pupils from P4 to P7 had their Sports on the village park with many
parents attending both venues. We are pleased to say that a very sunny
day helped to make the events a success.
As each school year comes to an end and senior pupils move on, some
parents step down from the areas where they have been helping, such
as School Uniforms and The Book Club. We are looking for replacements
and would appreciate names being put forward as soon as possible so
that “change over” arrangements can be made. The School Council will
be meeting in School on Tuesday 2nd June and everyone interested is
welcome to come along to fi nd out what is involved. You are assured of
a very friendly welcome. If you wish to fi nd out more in the meantime

Corseford School
After more than 60 years service between them
at Corseford School, Heather Aitchison and
Barbara Barr have decided to retire. They will
be missed by all the pupils, staff and parents.
Everyone from Corseford wishes them both a
happy, healthy and enjoyable retirement.
A man from Chainsaw Craft came to visit
Corseford and made lots of amazing things
from our old tree stumps including a beautiful
thistle. We were all very impressed.
