The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland is one of twelve

regional Reserve Banks that together with the Board of Governors in Washington, DC, make up the Federal Reserve System, the central bank of the United States. The Cleveland Reserve Bank, including branch offices in Cincinnati and Pittsburgh, serves the Fourth Federal Reserve District (Ohio, western Pennsylvania, the northern pan- handle of West Virginia, and eastern Kentucky). The Federal Reserve

System formulates and imple- ments U.S. monetary policy, supervises banks and bank holding companies, and provides financial services to depository institu- tions and the federal government. The Federal Reserve System is an independent entity with- in the government. It operates autonomously within a framework

of economic and financial policy objectives established by the gov- ernment. Although its decisions are not ratified by the executive branch, it is subject to congressional oversight. For instance, its Chairman periodically reports to Congress. Its structure was designed by Congress to provide a broad perspective on econom- ic activity in all parts of the country and to create a balance between pub- lic and private control. You can learn more about the Federal Reserve System on our website. The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, part of the nation’s cen- tral bank, has supported many opportunities for professional growth during our 94-year history. Our vision is to be a premier Federal Reserve Bank recognized for opera- tional excellence and expertise in payments systems, banking supervi- sion, and economic issues that are important to our region and nation.
