Cause Magazine • Special University Supplement Campus and Surroundings

SMU offers both a challenging educational experience and a lively social and cultural life. About 180 campus-based student organizations provide students with opportunities to lead, net- work, volunteer, have fun and make lifelong friends. SMU hosts hundreds of events annually, and featured guests have included Tony Blair, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Anderson Cooper and Cokie Roberts.

SMU’s 14 residence halls and living communities include an honors hall, fine arts community, wellness community and a service-learning house.

SMU’s park-like campus, located five miles north of down- town Dallas in a traditional and upscale residential neighbor- hood, features Collegiate Georgian-style architecture and enjoys a pleasant Sun Belt climate. Dozens of programs and refine- ments to buildings have been initiated by SMU in order to reduce the University’s ecological footprint. SMU is committed to constructing new buildings that will meet LEED Gold-certi- fication standards.

Dallas is ranked as one of the world’s most livable cities, is home to about 1,500 regional and corporate headquarters, and offers outstanding opportunities for internships and future employment after graduation.

Financial Options

SMU’s merit-based scholarships have been named among the best in the United States by America’s Best College Scholarships. To help manage the investment in a college educa- tion, SMU offers many resources through our professional coun- selors, such as a monthly payment plan. When you figure in aca- demic excellence, variety of majors, personal attention, cultural diversity and a dynamic metropolitan location, you’ll see that SMU is a value-added education that costs considerably less than many private institutions with comparable reputations nationwide.

Nearly 80 percent of first-year students receive financial assistance in the form of merit- and need-based scholarships, grants, part-time jobs, payment plans and/or low-interest loans. Students must apply for admission by January 15 to be eligible for merit-based scholarship consideration.
