Repair A few cracks developed aft er the forms were gently removed from the casti ng. I repaired the cracks with stout strips of basswood.

Valley Designs to the rescue with some nifty laser-cut “L” shaped stairways — one for each end. A porch roof and a couple of small loading platforms, and I had that pop I was looking for (see intro photo). I've never eaten an elephant, nor

walked a thousand miles, so I'll refrain from the usual allusions about time- consuming projects. Suffice it to say: take it one step at a time, and don't be afraid to set it aside for a while. Repeti- tive parts and tedious work may require frequent breaks to do other things.

Don't be in a rush — it takes however long it takes, and you will have it for- ever. This hobby is supposed to be fun. When it stops being fun, put it aside un- til the mood re-strikes (it will), and then go back after it.
