NP and SP&S 4-6-6-4 announced by Athearn AAA Plus Trains & Darts

MULTI-SCALE — Athearn announces Northern Pacific (NP) and Spokane, Portland & Seattle (SP&S) 4-6-6-4 Challenger steam locomotives for HO- and N-scale production. These coming steam locomotive models will feature road-specific details, including closed or open cab, coal or oil tender, wood tender deck, twin smoke stacks, single or dou- ble generators, and more. Athearn plans full boiler backhead details; individually applied piping, valves, and generators; correct operating eccentric cranks; adjustable cab windows; directional lights and illu- minated number boards; and more. The HO-scale model will be an Athearn Genesis-series
release
with dual-flywheel motor; pivoting front- and rear-engines, allowing operation on curves as tight as 18- inch radius; electrical pick up on all driver and tender wheels; and McHenry couplers. The model will have Digital Command Control and SoundTraxx Tsunami sound and will sell for $629.98. Athearn’s N-scale 4-6-6-4 Chal-
lenger model carries a $479.98 retail price and will include dual flywheels, pivoting front- and rear- engines able to negotiate 11-inch radius curves, and McHenry cou- plers. For this initial release, two NP examples will be produced (Nos. 5138 and 5148), as well as SP&S No. 910.
