With some of the world’s most prestigious luxury resort brands now dotted around the Seychelles it’s easy to overlook the many affordable options that the islands offer, suggests Alan Orbell
S
eychelles’ exceptional scenic splendours across its 115 coral and granite islands have never been in question, but it was
once – remarkable as it seems now – known for a lack of quality accommodation. That has dramatically changed in recent years with a raft of top-class hotels and resorts – to the point where the islands have come to be seen as solely for those with very deep pockets. The islands’ remoteness is never going to
make it a cheap destination but it can be an affordable destination, as Lydia La Rue, Stylish Resorts’ Business Development Director, asserts. “Seychelles now offers a diverse choice of
accommodation with many new affordable small hotels having opened in recent years. “Now complementing the stunning beauty
of these islands, are some high-standard bijou properties for a romantic holiday to treasure. Also, with rates for some hotels quoted in euros, prices are effectively 20% lower than last year! So far in 2015, visitor numbers to Seychelles from the UK are up 38% on last year and we see good continuing interest for the rest of the year.” A Seychelles Tourism website – seychellessecrets. com – is an excellent source of smaller properties with close to 70 guest houses, luxury villas, self-catering chalets and small hotels in the portfolio. By no means all are featured by tour operators so agents will need to be creative but the rates offered by these properties truly are affordable. The quality of the amenities and services is also assured wherever the Seychelles Secrets logo is displayed.
Random examples are the Birgo Guesthouse on La Digue, with rates from €118 pn; the 14-room Anse Soleil Beachcomber on south-west Mahe, from €132 pn; the Baie Ste Anne on Praslin, from€126 pn; and the three-room Le Sans Souci Guest house, just 10 minutes from the tiny capital of Victoria, from €160. Self-catering properties offer similar rates: the Demeure De Cap Maison from €120 pn and the six-room Bel Horizon from €150, both on Mahé.
