Sail Britannia! – P&O sails forth with ‘the nation’s ship’ –
to launch its newest addition we knew we were in for something spectacular. So Jo Austin got decked out...

Only the third ship in history to take on the name, P&O's luxury Britannia is fi ttingly titled in every respect. Its 15 decks, 13 restaurants and 1,837 suites and cabins celebrate 'modern classic' Britain through its interior design, its commissioned artworks and especially its bold Union Jack livery. The largest of P&O's fl eet, Britannia can carry
3,647 passengers and most will enjoy an outside balcony. It also features four swimming pools, nine entertainment areas, a spa and gym and plenty of facilities for children, including a splash zone. The 'spirit of modern Britain' is also served up in its bars with artisan gins, whisky, beers, ales and ciders sourced from around the UK. Six stars of the British food and drink scene have been invited to design menus for Britannia's 13 restaurants and James Martin will oversee The Cookery Club and hold regular classes. And an impressive array of culinary guests will make an appearance on selecetd cruises. In her maiden year, Britannia will visit 57
ports in 31 countries and cover 90,000 miles. She will be based in Southampton until she crosses the Atlantic for her winter sailings in the Caribbean. "May God bless her and all who sail in her," said her Majesty.
