COLIN J. STEWART Chairman
Foreign Airlines Association, UK
A YEAR IN CONTEXT... AS I approach the end of my first year as Chairman of the UK Foreign Airlines Association it seems the perfect moment to reflect on an eventful year. For many of those reading this column there may be little if any awareness of who we are and what we do, and a pertinent question might be: “What is the Foreign Airlines Association?” Well, part of the answer is in the name. Founded in 1946, the FAA UK is the oldest association of this type in the world, created by some of the real pioneers of the airline industry such as Henry Spry- Leverton (KLM), Jack Bamford (Air France) and Dennis Handover (SAS’s predecessor ABB). The FAA was initially created to provide a counter-balance to the home carriers of the time. Over the last 69 years its focus has had to move to reflect the changing face of the airline industry and now the FAA acts as the ideal way for airline executives to meet and network in a non anti-competitive environment while being exposed to some of the industry’s leading influencers and leaders. My key responsibilities as Chairman is to ensure the FAA remains relevant and adds value to its members. Over the coming months I hope to share
with you some insight into our members and their businesses as well as digest the many issues currently impacting our wonderful industry. We currently have 23 member airlines
as well as a number of industry related associate member companies. I am confident that we will continue to grow our membership throughout 2015.
