Chris Hopkins, managing director, Hydes Brewery Under the leadership of Chris Hopkins, the Salford-based brewery now owns more than 80 managed and tenanted pubs and has seen its turnover increase to £18.5m and profit rise by 25% to £1.77m in 2014.


Kim Kaewkraikhot and Martin Stead, owners, Thai Restaurant Group Martin Stead and Kim Kaewkraikhot have developed their group of successful Chaophraya restaurants with sites in Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham and Leeds and have ambitious plans to set up shop in London too. The recent opening of Thaikhun in Manchester offers a Thai menu inspired by the street food stalls of Bangkok.

Colin Manning, co-owner, and Gary Manning, chef-patron, 60 Hope Street The Mannings-owned restaurant group is located around Liverpool’s iconic Hope Street and includes the flagship 60 Hope Street, along with Asian fusion restaurant Host and Quarter restaurant and deli kitchen.


Tomas Maunier and Robert Melman, directors, Fazenda Rodizio Bar & Grill Alongside two other partners, Tomas Maunier and Robert Melman founded Fazenda restaurants, first in Leeds, then Liverpool, before opening a site in Manchester last year.


Stephen Miles, general manager, Radisson Blu Edwardian Manchester Holding the role of chair of the NW Regional Hoteliers Association, Stephen Miles is the founder of the Hotel Future Foundation, which will be a concept of Hospitality Academies across the country; the first is currently being constructed in Greater Manchester.

Special achievement award: Jonathan Slater


In a career spanning three decades, Jonathan Slater has been at the helm of the Chester Grosvenor since 1 August 1983. During the 1980s he personally supervised


every aspect of a multimillion-pound refurbishment that transformed the Grade II-listed building, along with the creation of two award-winning restaurants, La Brasserie and Arkle (since renamed Simon Radley at the Chester Grosvenor and the recipient of a Michelin star for 25 consecutive years). A founder director of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, Slater recently completed his third term as chairman. He is a director of Marketing Cheshire,


actively encouraging investment and tourism, as well as a director of CH1 Chester BID, which works to improve the city’s trading environment and infrastructure. After received the prestigious Catey


Award for Manager of the Year in July 2002, he joined the elite ranks of the Master Innholders in 2003. He was presented with an Outstanding Achievement Award at the Chester Food and Drink Festival in 2010. Slater will be retiring from his role as managing director of the Chester Grosvenor at the end of this month, but will remain involved with the Grosvenor Estate in a strategic consultancy role with the Oddfellows boutique hotel brand on Lower Bridge Street as it plans to open a second Oddfellows site, in Cheadle, south Manchester.


David Mooney and Paul Newman, owners, New Moon Co Set up in 2011 the New Moon Co has seen dramatic growth. It now operates six sites in the North West with over 140 staff. In the past year it has introduced new concepts Beef and Pudding and the Mockingbird Taproom, and will open the Blind School restaurant and pub in Liverpool this year.

Joycelyn Neve, managing director, Seafood Pub Company Joycelyn Neve started the Seafood Pub Company in 2010. It now operates seven sites, having built a reputation for quality ingredients and informal yet knowledgeable service.


Eamonn O’Loughlin, owner, Eclectic Hotels Eamonn O’Loughlin oversees the running of private members club On The 7th at Media City in Salford, and three hotels:


Great John Street in Manchester, Didsbury House and Eleven Didsbury Park. A new site, the Booth Street hotel, will be opening this year.


Si Ord, owner, Sandinista Having opened Sandinista Leeds in 2002 and Smokestack Leeds in 2007, Si Ord followed up the small and enigmatic bar concept with its Manchester equivalent in 2011. In the meantime, Blind Tyger in Leeds has been recently joined by new opening the Black Swan restaurant.
