LUSSO APPOINTS NEW OPERATIONS DIRECTOR Foodservice firm Lusso – part of CH&Co – has announced Matt Symonds as its new operations director.
Matt Symonds Symonds has joined the
company as managing director Paul Hurren seeks to restructure the team, and will take responsibility for managing all Lusso sites as well as further growing the business. His immediate team includes
three operations managers, two group managers, a site manager and a project manager. Symonds previously worked
on the British Airways, Siemens and Bank of Scotland accounts at BaxterStorey, and before that in business development and operations for the London- based clients of Lexington Catering.
GATHER & GATHER NAMES NEW SALES DIRECTOR FOR SCOTLAND Gather & Gather, the catering brand of facilities management firm Mitie, has appointed Stephen McDade as its new sales director in Scotland. McDade joins from Centerplate
(formerly the Lindley Group), where he worked since 2010, most recently as group operations director for the UK business. His 16 years’ experience in the industry includes working in fine-dining and boutique hotels, as well as sporting events and venues, such as Murrayfield Stadium, Rangers FC’s Ibrox Stadium and Scotland’s Hampden Park national stadium.
LEVY RESTAURANTS AND WELSH RUGBY UNION GROUP FORM JOINT VENTURE Levy Restaurants has teamed up with the Welsh Rugby Union Group (WRU Group) to create a new company to provide catering, conferencing and hospitality at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. The new venture, dubbed
Millennium Stadium Experience (MSEL), aims to marry the strengths of WRU official hospitality and Compass Group’s sports, leisure and hospitality division.

HARBOUR & JONES EVENTS SECURES SIX NEW LONDON LISTINGS Harbour & Jones Events has secured six new listings at London event venues for 2015, including four operated by Merlin Events London. The Merlin Events listing includes the group’s complete portfolio of
venues: Madame Tussauds, Sealife London Aquarium, Stardome 4D and the London Dungeon, with the capacity to cater for parties of up to 1,000. The caterer has also been named as an approved supplier at Building Six at the O2, which has capacity for 3,000 and a private outdoor terrace for 700, as well as Trinity House, home to the General Lighthouse Authority at Tower Hill, which is a 300-capacity venue with five historic event spaces.
MSEL is 83.5% owned by the
WRU Group and 16.5% by Compass Group UK & Ireland, which has been sole caterer at the stadium since it opened in 1999 before becoming a Levy Restaurants venue. MSEL will be based at the
revamped hospitality headquarters inside the Millennium Stadium.
ELIOR, ASK AND CHIMICHANGA AMONG THE WINNERS OF THE MIDAS AWARDS 2015 The winners of the Menu Innovation and Development Awards 2015 (MIDAS) have been announced. The 22 award categories
recognise high standards and
stiff competition from six other finalists to take the coveted title, awarded to them by the Council for Hospitality Management Education. The final involved a challenging
networking lunch and conversation with the judges, including Lexington Catering chairman Tim West, Red Carnation hotels managing director Jonathan Raggett, and Amanda Afiya, editor at The Caterer. The lunch followed previously judged paper and video entries.
