Martin Ainscough, owner, Ainscoughs Started in 1996 by Martin and Helen Ainscough, the Ainscough Group is now an eight-strong collection of pubs with rooms and hotels.
Mark Andrew, owner, Mark Andrew Developments With a portfolio of brands in the MAD family, including Walrus, Tusk, Hula Tiki Lounge, the Fitzgerald and Rosylee, Mark Andrew has developed a diverse set of successful operations in Manchester’s Northern Quarter.
Haz Arshad and Sax Arshad, directors, Mughli Mughli was established in 1991 and currently consists of two restaurants – one in Manchester and the other in Knutsford – as well as the Railway Cafe & Gin Bar in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, which is a pop-up collaboration with chef David Gale.
Paul Askew, chef-patron, the Art School, Liverpool Paul Askew is also chairman of Merseyside’s Tourism Business Network and has worked hard to put food
tourism at the front of Liverpool’s bid to become a truly international destination.

Mohammed Aslam, owner, Aagrah Group Along with his brothers Sabir and Iqbal, Mohammed Aslam founded the Aagrah group of restaurants in 1977. The group’s portfolio now boasts 16 successful sites in North and West Yorkshire, a hotel and a banqueting business.
Tim Bacon, chief executive officer, and Jeremy Roberts, group commercial director, Living Ventures The Living Ventures Group operates 33 sites with seven different brands – Gusto, Blackhouse, the Alchemist, Australasia, the New World Trading Company, Artisan and, most recently, Manchester House. It is currently expanding the Alchemist bar in Spinningfields, Manchester, following its successful opening in Leeds.
Ken Buckley, managing director, Bravo Inns Bravo Inns was formed in 2007. It operates 27 pubs and continues to expand, making around seven acquisitions a year.
Marie Carter and Beau Myers, co-owners, Beautiful Drinks Beau Myers and Marie Carter are the brains behind Manchester institutions Keko Moku, Home Sweet Home, Luck, Lust, Liquor and Burn, and the ‘burgers and booze’ concept of Almost Famous.
Special achievement award: William Lees Jones
As managing director of JW Lees, William Lees Jones has been at the forefront of reshaping and revitalising the brewery business, which operates 35 managed pubs and lets a further 130 tied pubs to self- employed tenants. The JW Lees empire now embraces JW Lees Brewery, JW Lees Pubs, the Alderley Edge hotel, the Trearddur Bay hotel and Willoughby’s Wine Merchants. The company plans to invest £67.5m over
the next five years in buying and developing 65 new pubs, some under the established Duttons café bar brand in the North West, creating 1,000 jobs in the process.
Sue Crimes, chief executive, Gusto Crimes has helped develop a number of brands, including the Oast House, Botanist, the Alchemist and Artisan.
Morgan Davies, founder/ chief executive officer, Barburrito Morgan Davies co-founded fast-food Mexican restaurant chain Barburrito with business
partner Paul Kilpatrick in 2005. It has expanded to six sites across the North West and also has one in the capital.
Jimmy del Giudice, operations director, and Mark McQuater, chief executive, Revolution Bars Group There are currently 53 Revolution bars and five Latin America-themed Revolucion de Cuba joints in the country. The group has plans to open nine more sites in the next two years.
Carlo Distefano, chairman, San Carlo Group, and Marcello Distefano, managing director, San Carlo Group This multi-award winning, family-owned restaurant group includes San Carlo, Cicchetti, Signor Sassi and Fumo restaurants in Bristol, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, London and Manchester.
