where possible Volvo will be the supplier of choice going forwards C make it worthwhile. The Volvos also give us significant cost savings due to their superior fuel economy.”

“Reliability is one of our main concerns and I can’t knock the service that Volvo provides at all,” says Mr Nicholson. “I have always found dealing with staff at Volvo to be a pleasure. They are always happy to help and extremely quick to respond to any queries that we have,” says office manager Emily Summerson.

Ashcourt has in-house fitter Adam Donkin to oversee machine service and maintenance, but all of the Volvos have been supplied with comprehensive service contracts to ensure maximum uptime. The

company aims to turn over its machine fleet every two to three years, which should prevent any unexpected repair costs and ensure that productivity remains high.

It is immediately obvious that Ashcourt values its people and their opinions when it comes to choosing and running machinery. “It’s partly operator comfort, but it’s the all-round machine, the Volvo is totally different when you have driven other makes of equipment,” says Mr Nicholson. “We’ve got some really good drivers,” adds Mr Bousfield. “But it is getting harder to find operators with the right sort of talent. We do rent out the machines, but only with our operators.”

At present the A30F trucks, the L110G and three of the firm’s excavators are working on a major earthmoving contract for world-class driven game shoot provider Warter Priory Estates. Ashcourt is moving around 120,000m3

of

material, to level an area on the estate for the firm’s new head office buildings, grain stores and dryers.

It is this sort of word-of-mouth and on-site recommendation that has seen Ashcourt progress so swiftly, adding a range of construction specialities to its contracting offering as required to meet the diverse needs of clients.

There seems little doubt that further growth will include more trips to Immingham for Ashcourt’s well-travelled lowloader.
