Established just seven years ago, Mackoy Ltd has specialised in providing groundworks and civil engineering services to the house construction industry for major house builders such as Bellway Homes, Barratt Homes, Miller and and Persimmon Homes to name but a few, covering Dorset, Hampshire, Sussex, Wiltshire and Berkshire.

The company has steadily built up its fleet of mobile plant to service the contracts it undertakes, which consists of a mix of ten Volvo 14 tonne excavators, a variety of mini excavators including Volvos along with an assortment of other mobile plant such as site dumpers and Volvo DD25 tandem rollers. “Having operated Volvo products myself in the past I fully appreciate the quality and reliability of the products,” says Mike Mayock. “In a sense I have grown up with them, so when I started out on my own and besides taking advice from third party references it made sense to stick with what you know.”

The Volvo EC140D is powered by a Volvo four cylinder D4H Stage IIIB engine developing 114hp which contributes to an ex- cellent performance being well matched to the machine’s hy- draulics. The machine’s ‘Integrated work mode control’ provides high efficiency, rapid dig cycles and low fuel consumption. This advanced mode control system ensures the maximum possible hydraulic horsepower available is delivered at a constant engine speed under varying load conditions. In addition, boom and arm geometry provide highly competitive digging forces and lifting capacities, which makes for faster work cycles. Hose rupture

valves are fitted as standard to the boom and dipper cylinders as are quick fit hydraulics and a hammer/shear service.

The Volvo Care Cab offers a large roomy interior with plenty of leg room and foot space. The excellent all round visibility is en- hanced by pressurized and filtered cab air supplied by a 14 vent, climate control system. An adjustable easy to read LCD colour

monitor provides real time information of the machine functions, important diagnostic information and a wide variety of work tool settings. The monitor also doubles as a monitor for the rear view camera.

Mackoy Ltd, based at Chandlers Ford, provides a full ground works and civil engineering service to the house building industry including sewer and drainage installation, site enabling, roads, driveways and access and foundation work up to dpc level. The company employs 180 personnel.

Besides operating Volvo 14 tonne excavators, Mackoy also runs Volvo compact excavators and DD25 tandem rollers

Here’s Mike back in 2008 operating a Volvo DD24 tandem roller. In the early days Mackoy Ltd specialised in providing labour to local plant contractors and house building firms and the MD didn’t mind ‘getting stuck in’ when needed!
