CEO message to members Powering your life

y delivering safe, reliable and affordable power to your homes and businesses, TCEC powers the lives of our members. We also leverage the seven cooperative principles to improve the quality of life for our members.

“Education, Training and Information” is the Fifth Cooperative Principle. We regularly provide safety demonstrations to schools, businesses and organizations. We focus particularly on emergency services personnel since we are close partners when disaster strikes. As for providing information to our members, we continue to look for new ways to engage our members in an increasingly digital world. For example, we started a monthly Member Matters video series on our YouTube channel this year.

Te Seventh Principle is “Concern for Community” and it shows in our contributions to charitable causes and our encouragement of employee participation in civic organizations.

Solid financial position Our cooperative had a very good year in 2013. Net margins totaled more than $15.8 million and purchased power was more than $53.7 million. Energy sales continue to grow primarily due to the oil and gas industry in our area.

We continue to invest in our electric system, keeping our infrastructure safe and reliable. Trough these investments, we have seen fewer outages and increased service reliability. We have also seen a significant decrease in power line losses over time. Line losses occur when electricity is transmitted long distances from a power plant to your home. Reducing line losses means decreased expenses and an improved financial position for your cooperative.

Patronage capital retirement Tanks to our solid financial position, your TCEC Board of Trustees has approved the retirement of approximately $5 million in patronage capital. Members will receive their checks this fall. Ensuring our members receive patronage capital goes back to the Tird Cooperative Principle of “Economic Member Participation.”

Grassroots efforts For months, we’ve asked our members to submit comments regarding regulations on power plants to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) through Action.coop. You responded.

TCEC members have submitted 1,669 comments to the EPA as of May 12. Our cooperative members have turned in more than 40 percent of the 4,101 comments submitted by Oklahoma cooperative members to date. Tat is outstanding, setting us apart as a leader in grassroots efforts. Tank you for stepping up and standing up for America’s energy future.

Te fight to keep electric rates affordable will continue for the foreseeable future. For example, the comment period for the EPA’s new power plant rule has ended and the agency is now preparing to release its rules regarding existing power plants.

Also, we urged you to contact the EPA last year concerning its Cross State Air Pollution rule to regulate pollution from coal- fired power plants that drifts across state lines. Tat rule has been tied up in court for quite some time and, just recently, the United States Supreme Court reinstated the rule. Tis could have a great impact on our ability to keep electricity affordable.

Keep visiting Action.coop to submit comments to the EPA and stay tuned to our communications to learn the latest details.

New facility progress continues Progress continues on the cooperative’s new facility northeast of Dollar General between Highways 54 and 64 near Hooker. Members will start to see activity at the construction site over the summer. To keep an eye on the progress, visit the New Facility section of our website at www.tcec.coop. You can view a live webcam feed of the site and review recent articles discussing our plans. An artist’s rendering of the new facility after its completion is on the website and in our current lobby. Having all our employees in one central location will greatly improve our organization’s efficiency.

Another great benefit of having a local cooperative serving you is that we’re here to answer any questions you might have. Call, stop by or email us anytime if you need to discuss a concern. I’ll see you at our annual membership meeting in September.
