OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AWARD THE FAIR TAX ON FLYING CAMPAIGN This alliance of more than 30 leading travel organisations, including airlines, airports and trade associations, campaigns vigorously against the excessively high air passenger duty (APD). Introduced 20 years ago, APD was £5 on UK-EU flights and £10 elsewhere, but now ranges from £13 to £376, providing an estimated £2.9 billion in receipts by the end of the current financial year. The tax for long-haul premium travellers increases to £388 in April.
The judges felt Chambers Travel Group shows a clear understanding of its clients’ business objectives. They were impressed with Chambers’ bespoke technology solutions, and multiple employee recognition and development schemes.
The judges said Carlson Wagonlit Travel was raising the bar in demonstrating the value that travel can bring to a corporate’s objectives. And they liked CWT’s ability to tailor solutions, not only for global organisations but for smaller clients, too.
The judges said Carlson Wagonlit Travel’s CSR programme is leading the competition into new territory, and setting a new benchmark, challenging others to follow.
The judges’ decision was based on the bespoke solution and team-approach shown in this submission. The travel management company clearly listened to the client, and the demonstrated change management was extremely impressive.
The judges agreed that Carol epitomises all that is good in professional travel buying, and that she is a strong change manager with excellent focus on results over a relatively short period. She also contributes to the industry at large through her Institute of Travel & Meetings board directorship.
The Campaign came together because it believes APD is having a damaging impact on the UK and there is a compelling case for the government to take urgent action. The judges felt its efforts should be recognised, as success will benefit the business travel community as a whole.
