PREDICTING A BETTER OUTLOOK


I HOPE YOUR YEAR has got off to a good start. It has not been without its challenges already, as people around the country battle against the elements to cope with storms and widespread flooding. Forecasters do their best to prepare us for what lies ahead, but they cannot always predict what the weather fronts will do.


There is a sense in our industry that 2014 will be a more positive year – less turbulent than the past two or three years anyway. So the outlook is a little sunnier, which is a relief to all of us. This doesn’t mean we shouldn’t plan ahead for


half of respondents will still be focused on savings in 2014 – and 25 per cent of that number are looking for savings of more than 10 per cent. Meanwhile, 27 per cent of buyers are searching for savings via behavioural change, 18 per cent via cost reduction, and 17 per cent via leverage/ consolidation. Interestingly, 35 per cent of those surveyed still have separate policies for travel and expenses. The report also covered concerns on the privacy of company and personal data, with 81 per cent of respondents more

any eventuality. We are certainly all better equipped to deal with whatever is thrown at us, based on experiences of the last few years, but it doesn’t mean we should put away the sandbags just yet. ITM has been listening to buyers via various focus groups held around the country, so that we can help to prepare you for the future. As a result, we have a full calendar of events providing workshops, forums and focus groups to share knowledge and to debate about various topics that are challenging us at present. These topics cover a vast amount of ground, so please check the ITM calendar for the events most appropriate to your needs. ITM’s Industry Outlook report – which surveyed the ITM buyer membership – found that over


concerned about this than they were previously, and 48 per cent felt that they were not entirely in control of their company travel data within the supplier market-place. The report also identified support for air expansion in the UK, both at Heathrow (68 per cent) and regionally (79 per cent), with 66 per cent also supporting the expansion of high-speed rail.
