JO LAYTON
The Apartment Service has appointed Jo Layton as managing director of group commercial sales. She joins the apartment and agency operator from Bridgestreet, where she was responsible for sales and marketing. She spent nine years with Marriott and five years at the Intercontinental Park Lane.
OMER KADDOURI Middle Eastern hotel management company Rotana has appointed Omer Kaddouri (above) as CEO, and Guy Hutchinson as COO. Outgoing CEO Selim El Zyr will continue to serve in an advisory role as the vice-chairman of the board. El Zyr has headed the company since he co-founded it in 1992.
YANNIS KARMIS Technology provider Sabre has appointed Yannis Karmis as head of its newly formed global corporate solutions group. Karmis has served Sabre in a number of different roles, including leading Travelocity Business and head of product sales and business development for Sabre Travel Network.
JUSTIN LANCASTER Air Charter Service has promoted Justin Lancaster to the position of group commercial director, a role he takes over from Justin Bowman, who was appointed chairman in a recent management restructure. Lancaster has been with the aircraft charter specialist for 12 years.
ALISON BROADHEAD Alison Broadhead has been appointed as COO for luxury hotel group, Jumeirah. Broadhead has had more than 25 years’ experience in the hospitality industry, and she has previously held senior roles at Marriott, including director of international business management in the US.
JACQUI KAVANAGH Jacqui Kavanagh has been elected to the position of vice-chair for the Hotel Booking Agents Association (HBAA). An active member of the HBAA since its inception in 1997, Kavanagh has previously held the position of chair of the association’s marketing committee.
MATTHEW CAWTHORNE Security and risk specialist Pilgrims Group has appointed Matthew Cawthorne as country director, Iraq. He will have responsibility for Pilgrims’ policy and strategy in that country, including all aspects of existing contracts and the development of new business.
JAMES AMOS Hillgate Travel has appointed James Amos as online travel and expense solutions manager. He has had experience in a variety of senior roles at Gray Dawes Travel and FCM Travel, and will now manage and develop Hillgate’s online booking tool and expense management products.
LEE ROZARIO Chauffeur-service provider Tristar Worldwide has appointed Lee Rozario as roadshow and events co-ordinator. Rozario joins from Carey Worldwide Chauffeured Services, where he worked for seven years. The appointment comes on the back of the company’s expansion, announced last year.
LUFTHANSA Lufthansa has named Carsten Spohr (right) as its new chief executive officer, and has also appointed Heike Birlenbach (left) as vice-president of sales and services for Europe. Spohr, who will assume the role on May 1, has been a member of the executive board of Lufthansa and CEO of Lufthansa Passenger Airlines since 2011. Based in Frankfurt, Birlenbach will be responsible for the Lufthansa passenger airline organisation in Europe. Birlenbach joined Lufthansa in 1990. In 2009, she was appointed head of Lufthansa Italia and, in 2011, took up her current position as head of cabin management for the Lufthansa Munich division.
DECLAN MURPHY Dorsett Hospitality International has appointed Declan Murphy as sales and marketing director for Dorsett Shepherds Bush, the group’s first hotel venture in Europe, set to open in May 2014. His has previously held sales and marketing roles with the Dhillon Group and Dukes Hotel in Mayfair.
