skin smart the next chapter

David Suzuki considers how exfoliation has become the foundation for technology-based skin care.

Everything in life fromthe construction of a new building, a blossoming career, to your personal health and fitness is reliant on, andmust be built upon, a strong foundation if the intention is to succeed.

Successful, technology based skin care is no different in that itmust also be built upon a strong foundation that we refer to as exfoliation. When it comes to technology- based skin care services, we rely exclusively onmechanical exfoliation as it poses no chemical risk with other technology services.

Beginning with a perfectly exfoliated and prepared foundation to work fromensures that the skin will allow formaximum conductivity when performingmicrocurrent services. The skin will acceptmaximumlight energy when performing LED services; the skin will realisemaximumcellular respiration during oxygen services, and thatmaximum product penetration can be achieved.

ultrasound / ultrasonic exfoliation

Mechanical exfoliation ismost commonly performed by one of three types of technology: Ultrasound,Microdermabrasion or Hydrodermabrasion.

Ultrasound technology, although extremely thorough, is themildest formofmechanical exfoliation. Via cavitation, rapid oscillations help to further loosen the stratumcorneum that is already in the process of naturally sloughing away.

It is commonly used with a Papaya-based exfoliation gel, and ismild enough to be used two to three times per week. It is extremely expeditious taking only three to fourminutes to thoroughly service the entire face and neck.

microdermabrasion

TraditionalMicrodermabrasion with corundumcrystals remains a very popular and standard tool in the skin therapist’s arsenal formechanical exfoliation.

Unlike Ultrasound,Microdermabrasion can usually only be tolerated once every 14-21 days as it is amuchmore assertive peel. In addition, there are some skin types that remain a bit too sensitive for Microdermabrasion, or too sensitive to have other technology services performed immediately afterMicrodermabrasion.

AsMicrodermabrasion ismore assertive service, it lends to an immediate and psychologically satisfying result in that the skin is left quite colourful fromthe stimulation along with a tightening sensation. This sensation reminds the client that something has now changed with their skin. This psychological effect, in tandemwith the proven results, is the reason that the demand forMicrodermabrasion continues to soar even after being in themarketplace for near two decades.

hydrodermabrasion

Hydrodermabrasion is the latest trend in the world of skin care and has really taken Microdermabrasion to the next level.

Similar toMicrodermabrasion, it works with suction and a closed loop vacuumsystem. Rather than using corundumcrystals on the

skin, it gently lifts the skin into themouth of the hand-piece placing it in contact with a diamond encrusted abrasive tip.

Mostmanufacturers offermultiple different tips that allow for heavy abrasion to light polishing. While the skin is being physically exfoliated, there aremultiple high-pressured jet streams of chilled aqua based fluids that assist in the exfoliation process as well as rehydrate the skin simultaneously. As like Microdermabrasion, the spent fluid and exfoliated skin tissue is deposited into a used fluid jar.

The results of this new technology are extremely impressive as there is a very finite control of the exfoliation level chosen. The process can be quite intense, quitemild, or somewhere in between, which allows the service to be performed weekly. As the aqua fluids are chilled, the effect on the skin is a cooling sensation, which perfectly prepares the skin for the next technology service.

Mechanical exfoliation is where technology- based skin care begins, as it is the foundation of all layered technology services. It, in itself, has always and continues to maintain excellent results and customer satisfaction, as a stand-alone service. When combined with other technology, the results are nothing short of astounding.

So regardless of what formofmechanical exfoliation you choose, make sure that your foundation is strong and the skin perfectly prepared to ensure formaximum technology-based benefits!
