McEwan Fraser Legal became the first Scottish company to win the coveted overall title at the Estate Agency of the Year Awards 2013, in association with The Sunday Times and The Times. It was a great success for Scotland up against the best of UK agencies and a personal triumph for chief executive and co-founder Ken McEwan, who only two years ago suffered a serious heart attack and was later diagnosed with epilepsy. “It could have been quite easy to
have given up at that stage, but I took the conscious decision to continue with the aggressive expansion of the business,” said McEwan. “To get the award, particularly for what my family went through with my illness, was a very special day.” McEwan said the award, presented
at the Lancaster London hotel last month, was “a massive endorsement for our credibility in the Scottish market place.” “It has now also put us firmly on the
map in the UK. We knew we were changing the face of estate agency in Scotland, offering something very different and special to our clients,” said McEwan.
“Our staff have had a massive lift from the award and at head office they were listening intently by mobile phone as each of the categories we entered was announced.” McEwan Fraser Legal also won gold in the Scotland category and gold for Innovation. “When we won the overall prize you
could hear the roar back in Edinburgh and the celebrations were immense.” McEwan Fraser has one of the
highest fee structures in Scotland. “This has allowed our business to be
free from external debt and allows us the luxury to grow through strong cash flow reserves. The by-product of having solid business financials is you can attract the very best people and you can continually invest in improving and delivering an outstanding experience for clients,” said McEwan. “By being recognised as expensive and the best in the industry, it actually attracts the right type of clients and our valuers need to deliver outstanding sales presentations to back that up, as opposed to simply selling on price at any cost, which is a strategy sadly adopted by some others in our industry.” The company can offer both
