Designer Contracts makes donation Flooring supplier Designer Contracts has donated flooring to a community, not-for-profit cinema set up to provide affordable tickets to the young, old and disadvantaged. The Jam Jar Cinema, based in Whitley Bay, is owned and run by volunteers and has benefited from carpets donated by Designer Contracts for the main cinema area and stairs, presenting film-buffs with a
comfortable and professional environment to enjoy a movie. The cinema takes its name from the days when cinema owners were encouraged to take jam jars as payment for entry when times were tough during the depression of the 1920s and 30s. Times are still tough and the cinema will discount a ticket when presented with a used, clean jam jar. “We are delighted to have been able to support such a great organisation,” said Designer Contracts managing director Peter Kelsey. “It has been interesting to see how a bygone era has been of inspiration when creating the cinema.” Designer Contracts has fully staffed offices and warehousing in 12 regions across the UK and now employs over 180 people. As well as flooring, the company supplies curtain, blind, furniture and lighting packs to the new-build industry and has a full show- home interior design service.
